Mike Fletcher
By: Nome
When Mike Fletcher first appears in the Mórrígna Trilogy, he's appears to be a happy-go-lucky goofball childhood friend to Ron and Ginny Weasley, taking great pleasure in irritating Ginny to no end (ch. 2). As the Rebirth moves on, we see Mike and Ginny's long-standing bonds of friendship, as does Harry Potter. Mike and Harry, both protective in their own way, form a mutual antagonism, setting the stage for Mike's role as watchdog over Ginny's interests, always on the lookout for Harry being too overprotective.
Mike is thoughtful, guarding Ginny's well-being, but is willing to step out of the way when he knows she is making her own
decisions. When others like Harry or Dumbledore try to make her
decisions, Mike lends her an ear and gives her room to breathe and find her own choice. |
Mike seems to be open and always concerned for others, but his concern for others is a way for him to keep his self-imposed blindness to his personal emotions. We rarely see a glimpse of Mike's problems or cares. He's very closed about his dad and home life, and he withdraws from Ginny when she might cause more loss to him
(ep. 1). Humour in the face of tribulation is another of Mike's apparent strengths, since he uses it to help people, giving them a release when stress builds too far, but it's also part of the mask of denial, allowing him to laugh off the things important to him.
